Singaraja – The Covid-19 pandemic did not stop UNDIKSHA students from achieving achievements. Two athletes from UKM Karate Undiksha, namely Kadek Andri Dwi Wahyudi, won a silver medal, and Putu Suardana won a bronze medal in the Individual Word Field for the National Inter-Student Category in the Jakarta Karate Open & Festival (JKOF) IV which took place from 13 to 14 February 2021. In the championship held Virtually, this UNDIKSHA Karate UKM, which Kadek Yogi Parta Lesmana fostered, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Ni Putu Ayu Krisna Dewi, S.E., sent six athletes who had to compete with around 400 participants from all over Indonesia.
Putu Suardana stated that there are challenges in participating in the championship this time. “There is a challenge in this competition, because the event usually offline, and now is virtual. Of course, we have to prepare the best,” he said after meeting the UNDIKSHA Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., Tuesday (2/3/2021).
He also said that getting experience is the most important thing in this competition, apart from the target of winning the championship. “In addition to gaining experience during this pandemic, we also always have a target every time we participate in the championship. And going forward, our target is to win in the upcoming Porprov,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ayu Krisna said that UKM Karate always prepares its athletes to participate in the championship. He expects support and comprehensive support from Undiksha for athletes who excel. “We always prepare for athletes, so if there is a championship for the student category, we are ready. So far, UNDIKSHA’s support has been very good for UKM in participating in any championships, and every championship, Astungkara, we can win medals. Maybe in the future there will be some kind of personal support for students who won medals, one of which is scholarships,” he said.
Vice Rector, Prof. Suastra, who received and draped this medal to the winners, expressed his high appreciation to the students and coaches who have made achievements during this pandemic. “On behalf of the UNDIKSHA leadership, I would like to express my appreciation for the achievements amid the current pandemic situation,” he said. Furthermore, Suastra hopes that all athletes can prepare more thoroughly for other competitions and championships, especially internationally. “Currently, it will be a shared responsibility between Undiksha, coaches and students to maintain and maintain the achievements that we have achieved.
