Singaraja-Another achievement was achieved by UNDIKHSA’s students. The achievement came from the GEMASTIK (National Student Exhibition for Technology, Information, and Communication) in 2021, organized by the PUSPRESNAS or Pusat Prestasi Nasional (National Achievement Center) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. In the event hosted by Telkom University, the UNDIKSHA team in the game application development division won a silver medal. The team consisted of Made Agus Panji Sujaya, Made Yuda Sadewa, and Nyoman Juli Budiartawan, students of the Informatics Engineering Study Programme. The work displayed is in the form of the game “Calonarang: The Darkness of Dirah.”
Panji, one of the team members, explained that the making of the game was based on the reality in the community that there were still many people who did not know the story behind the Calonarang ritual. “Through this game, we try to provide an educational space for the community,” he said on Monday (11/10/2021).
The choice of the Calonarang story, he said, was also inseparable from his desire with the team to bring Balinese folklore into a game to introduce it to the wider community. “We feel that the story of Calonarang is one of the stories that is most attached to the Balinese people. Besides that, we are also inspired by games, which mostly only adopt foreign folklore and there are still a few folklores, especially from Bali, that are picked up,” he explained.
In the event, which took place from 4 to 7 October 2021, his team competed with a number of universities in Indonesia under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture. This student from Banyuning Village, Buleleng, does not deny that his success in achieving achievements cannot be separated from the support of all institutional leaders, lecturers, and his supervisor, namely I Gede Mahendra Darmawiguna, S.Kom., M.Sc. Furthermore, it took quite a long time to prepare works and others to face this prestigious competition. “Incidentally, this work is one of the thesis products of our member, namely Nyoman Juli Budiartawan. So at the same time, there was compiling a thesis and competing. Feeling blessed, all of our hard work paid off with a silver medal, which we finally won,” Said Panji.
Panji said that being a participant in this competition is not only to measure one’s ability but also to get feedback from the judges for game development. “So that we can polish this game to be better in the future. In addition, we also plan to participate in an incubation program for game company pioneers that are being predicted by well-known groups/companies, such as Indigo and Agate,” he explained.
Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., also expressed his appreciation for the achievements that have made Undiksha proud in the national arena. Likewise, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Public Relations, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd. It is hoped that Undiksha students will continue to be enthusiastic about their work and continue to improve their competence to compete in national and international competitions. The role of lecturers to participate in guiding is also expected to be maximized. (hms)
